- CATHERINE
GREGSON (b1914)
- Picture
left, the first woman to drive by car around Australia, is seen
standing beside her utility at the end of the epic 6 month journey
in 1937. Leaving Sydney for Adelaide with her mother Grace who
accompanied her throughout, the 23 year old from Tamworth NSW
did all her own maintenance. Sibyl Sale from Tasmania joined the
two women in Alice Springs from whence they drove to Darwin, Perth,
across the Nullabor to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

behaviour, she completed her 2-year journey, married and
had 12 children.
