Housed in a 5-floor purpose built office block close to Mita subway station in Tokyo, the Center opened in January 2000, funded by the Ministry of Welfare and Labour, and supports working women and women who want to work by providing seminars, counseling and information. A permanent exhibition on the history of working women, from the Meiji era (c1868-1910) to the present is located on the 3rd floor. There is also a temporary exhibition space in the basement. Exhibitions have included work of women photographers; handicrafts produced by women in Asia and Africa; and women’s museums in the USA.
