Who runs the show?
The National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame Inc is managed by an elected committee of 12, consisting of the Executive - President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer – and 8 ordinary Committee Members. Committee members use their own individual skills to assist in the day to day running of the museum, future planning and fundraising aspects of the organisation.

Helen Joraslafsky, Operations Manager, details building work at the Old Alice Springs Gaol to The Hon. Warren Truss when he visited in 2006.
Helen was born and educated in South Australia; training as a secondary school teacher (Commerce). She transferred to Tennant Creek, NT in 1972, to Alice Springs in 1973; and has lived in Central Australia since then.

Her attendance at the 1994 Annual General Meeting of National Pioneer Womens Hall of Fame out of interest resulted in her being elected Secretary of the organisation. She has served on the Committee continuously since then; as Secretary, Treasurer and President.

Following her report on the future requirements of the organisation in January 2005, she began her permanent employment as Manager in April 2005. Helen’s experience as a business teacher, taxation consultant, project officer, legal secretary and executive secretary prepared her well for the position.

Curatorial Staff

The original exhibitions were researched and designed by Pauline Cockrill, who left Alice Springs in 2004.

Local consultants Kessing Clack Kessing were contracted to curate the Women at the Heart exhibition and update the design of Ordinary Women Extraordinary Lives: Women First in their Field for their relocation to the Old Gaol in February 2007.

Part time Administration Assistant
Karen Cilka started working with NPWHF in August 2008 and has shown considerable enthusiasm for the organisation; always being most willing to do whatever needs to be done, whether it is cleaning, gardening, minor repairs or filing and other administrative tasks.  She also co-ordinates the volunteers roster.

Marketing Officer

Rosemary McKean was appointed as part time Marketing Officer until the official opening at the Old Gaol on 8 March 2006.  Her experience in media and promotional fields and the implementation of a marketing strategy greatly benefited the organization.

Fiona Croft took over the role from November 2007 to mid 2008, bringing her journalistic skills to the position.

State Liaison Officers
In order to spread the word about ‘Pioneer Women’ outside of Alice Springs, state Liaison Officers have been appointed to assist in co-ordination of NPWHF fundraising events, gathering and passing on information/artefacts regarding pioneering women, increasing NPWHF membership and generally promoting NPWHF.

It is intended that all states should be covered but we have only been successful in attracting such representation in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia.

We thank Carmel Ripper for her efforts over several years in Victoria, and Colleen Hines, who has been succeeded by Lynnette Williams, in New South Wales.

Lynnette can be contacted at:
