It operates out of her business Balloons by Rent an Event and contains the largest collection of research material about the legendary frugal Quaker or “Witch of Wall Street”, including original photographs, newspaper articles and magazines. Edith also gives performances in period costume to schools and other groups, reenacting Hetty’s story. Born into a prosperous New Bedford whaling family, Hetty inherited 1 million dollars on her father’s death and spent her life being extraordinarily thrifty, her estate being reputedly worth $100 million on her demise in 1916. |
