Helen was born and educated in South Australia; training as a secondary school teacher (Commerce). She transferred to Tennant Creek, NT in 1972, to Alice Springs in 1973; and has lived in Central Australia since then.

Her attendance at the 1994 Annual General Meeting of National Pioneer Womens Hall of Fame out of interest resulted in her being elected Secretary of the organisation. She has served on the Committee continuously since then; as Secretary, Treasurer and President.

Initially appointed by the Committee to a temporary (3 month) position to report on the future requirements of the organisation in January 2005, she began her permanent employment as Manager in April 2005. Helen’s experience as a business teacher, taxation consultant, project officer, legal secretary and executive secretary prepared her well for the position.

State Liaison Officers
In order to spread the word about ‘Pioneer Women’ outside of Alice Springs, state Liaison Officers have been appointed to assist in co-ordination of NPWHF fundraising events, gathering and passing on information/artefacts regarding pioneering women, increasing NPWHF membership and generally promoting NPWHF.

It is intended that all states should be covered but we have only been successful in attracting such representation in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia.

We thank Carmel Ripper for her efforts over several years in Victoria, until she moved to South Australia, and Colleen Hines in New South Wales, who has recently handed her position to Lynnette Williams.

Lynnette can be contacted at:
3 Gemeren Grove, West Pennant Hills, NSW 2125
Phone: (02) 9872 7518
Email: lorraine.williams@bigpond.com.au

We will be pleased to receive enquiries from anyone who wishes to become a State Liaison Officer in their state or area.
